Luís Carlos Almada Soares (born 16 April 1986), commonly known as Platini, is a Cape Verdean footballer who plays for Egyptian club El Ittihad Alexandria as a winger. He spent most of his professional career in Portugal, and chose his name in honour of French international Michel Platini. ==Club career== Born in Praia, Platini started playing football with local Sporting Clube da Praia. In 2008 he moved to Portugal, signing for Associação Académica de Coimbra. Platini never appeared officially for the Students, who loaned him to two third division clubs in consecutive seasons, G.D. Tourizense and Sertanense FC. In 2010 he signed a three-year contract with C.D. Santa Clara, in the second level. Platini appeared in 19 games for the Azores club in his first year, eleven as a substitute. One of his two goals came on 31 October 2010 in a 2–0 home win against C.F. Os Belenenses.
